The capybara is the largest rodent in the world. It lives in family groups usually consisting of 10 to 20 individuals, though larger groups can also be observed. It is found throughout much of northern and central South America.

Capybaras are semi-aquatic animals. They are often seen near water, where they spend a large portion of their time. Highly social, they communicate using a variety of sounds, including barking, chirping, and whistling. Their diet consists of grass and aquatic plants.
