The common seal is the most widespread species of seal in the Northern Hemisphere. It inhabits coastal waters and estuaries of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
These seals are highly social, spending time both on land and in the water. Excellent swimmers and divers, they hunt fish, squid, and crabs. Although their population is stable, they are threatened by pollution and habitat loss.
